Gaelic Festival on 1 November marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. It is also the Irish Language name for November. People lit bonfires on hill tops.

In Ourense on November 11 we celebrate our patron’s day, St Martin. We celebrate the end of Summer. People gather around a bonfire and eat chestnuts and drink local young wine.
CHRISTMAS
At Christmas Eve the members of the family gather around a feast of meat, wine, typical foods and all kinds of desserts. For devout Catholics, after dinner it’s time to go to a special midnight mass called La Misa del Gallo.
New Year’s Eve is the time people party with friends.
On January 6th we celebrate the Three Kings day. This is a vibrant and joyous fiesta. The Three Kings travel from the East bringing with them desired gifts delivered to households on the night of January 5th.
CARNIVAL
In February we celebrate Carnival. Ourense is the capital of Carnival in Galicia. We celebrate it with music, fancy dresses, masks and long meals.
Easter Holiday
Easter in Spain and in Galicia.
During the Holy Week people come together for religious ceremonies. Processions are held on the streets of almost city in Spain. It is public holiday. The most notably days are Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday.
Fiesta dos Maios
At the beginning of May we hold activities dancing and singing around «los Mayos» , tree-shaped structures decorated with flowers, leaves and fruits.
Sabores de Ourense-pinchos primavera
At the end of May, the council organizes a contest for the best tapas in town. The prices are affordable and they are delicious.
