Galicia is located in Atlantic Europe. It is bordered by Portugal to the South. It had a population of 3 million people.
Our coastline has over 1,66o km including islands and islets. The coast has rías and beaches.
The interior is characterized by hilly landscape in the east and south.
The climate is mild and rainy but dried in summer.
WE LIVE IN OURENSE
The North of Galicia: The Capital of Galicia - A Coruña e Lugo
Santiago de Compostela is the capital of Galicia. It is located in the province of A Coruña. For centuries, thousands of pilgrims travelled the Saint James’ Way every year which ends in the Cathedral.
Galician gastronomy is famous for his seafood.
A Coruña faces the Atlantic Ocean. It is the most important port in Spain. The most notable landmark is the Tower of Hercules (a lighthouse).
Lugo is the only city surrounded by Roman walls. The main sights are the cathedral and its famous festival in October: San Froilán. The most popular sport is basketball.
The South of Galicia: Pontevedra and Ourense
Ourense is the only land locked and the least known city by tourists. Ourense city is an old town with many monumental buildings and an ancient bridge.
Ourense is situated in the southwest of Galicia. It is worth visiting its cathedral, Roman spa and shopping areas.
Pontevedra is a fishing port and commercial city. The whole province is worth visiting in particular the city of Vigo.
Most of the population of Pontevedra live in the coastal area. There is a great wine called Albariño. Other important cities apart from Pontevedra and Vigo are Tui and Villagarcia.
