Ourense is a city and province located in the southeast of Galicia. The origin of the city is Roman, although there are doubts about the etymology of the Ourense toponym. The first theory indicates that it was possibly named by the Romans as «The City of Gold»

One of the most popular dishes in Ourense is Lacón con Grelos (Pork with turnip tops) but it is also popular the stew (pork and vegetables), pies with different filling (fish or meat) and fish such as lamprey, Miño eels and octopus.
The bread from the town of Cea is also famous.
